...and anyone else that knows about San Diego breweries. The wife and I are heading to San Diego next weekend, and are hoping to check out some breweries while we are there. I am definitely planning on going to Stone and Green Flash, because I drink lots of their products. What other ones should we head to?

Paging Dr. "Brian The Life Of"... Brian to the beer help desk...

(he lives in SD, he knows).

Port Brewing / Lost Abbey, the ones listed above, and for the love of hops, hit up Toronado ( http://www.toronadosd.com/ )

Sweet. Thanks. I haven't had Lost Abbey before, but you are not the first to recommend them (although your recommendation carries a little more weight than the other people I have heard from). Added to the list!

There are no other Gamecats. Just one Archduke of Opponia. Imposters and forgers will be put to death immediately, per the rules draw up by fellow Archdukes Automatch of Wagonesia, and Party-The-IVth of Asstopia.

You definitely need to hit Alesmith and Ballast Point. They both have really cool little tasting rooms. If you're in to home brewing, Ballast is especially cool because the tasting room is inside their home brewing supply store. They're two of the more widely-known SD beers.

Mother Earth is kind of an up-and-comer. They have a nice tasting room and some really good beer (Cali Creamin' on draft is unbelievable). Only problem is they're up north a ways, but if you go to the actual Stone brewery instead of the restaurant, you'll be in the general area. Hit Belching Beaver too while you're up there. Their peanut butter porter is worth the trip. They have a tasting room down south too.

If you're in to the small local places, you might want to try East County. Butchers, BNS, and Manzanita are all in Santee. They're smaller and all relatively new, so you can usually hang out and talk to people who are super excited to tell you all about their operation. The tasting rooms are attached to the breweries.

Hess, Mission, Coronado, Iron Fist, Prohibition, and Lightning are all worth the trip too. And Julian is a long drive, but a pretty one, and worth it if you enjoy a good hard cider.

There are a ton here man, you really can't go wrong.

I live about 5 minutes from Stone. 10 from Port/Lost Abbey. Both awesome. Along the 78 corridor there's a bunch more, but Iron Fist is also a good place to stop.

Farther south I'd recommend Societe, Hess, and Coronado Brewing (they have a great tasting room near 5 and Mission Bay, plus the main spot on Coronado).

When are you in town? I'm happy to give a fellow Jalop the beer tour. {edit: Ah, next weekend, like you said}

Awesome, thanks! I am not sure what exactly our plans will shape up to be (we are going to try to fit a bunch of stuff into a couple short days) but I would be more than happy to let you know when we are planning on heading to a few of the breweries if you want to head over at the same time and grab a pint.

Sounds good.

I wish there was a PM option with Kinja so I don't have to post my email. You on Twitter? @MarcRiesenberg

If not, I can explain my email address to everybody.

No problem. It's cuz it's always nice here. The suns always shining, so everyone's always in the mood for a beer.

I have a twitter account (@WaltWeatherman), but don't actually use it - I literally just created it just to log into Jalopnik back when Gawker converted over to the log-in through third party sites. You can probably message me on there, but I will have to actually log in and figure out how to use it...
